HIGH SCHOOL
Happy National Lutheran Schools Week!
During National Lutheran Schools' week we kick off the Hearts4Jesus Charity of the Month for February . . . it's been tradition to kick off with a penny war, grade versus grade.
The Middle School will compete against each other and the High School will compete against each other.
Middle School Collection Jugs will be located outside of Dr. Knorr's office near the 6th grade hallway intersection.
High School Collection Jugs will be located in the cafeteria near the glass doors.
NEW FOR 2020:  Last year we had the best competition ever which resulted in the student councils spending hours counting pennies.  So this year, we are giving extra points for rolled pennies.  Pennies are worth 1 positive point each.  If you deposit "bank rolled" pennies (these are pennies rolled by a machine from a bank) in the jug, you will receive 100 positive points (2x the value) for your grade.  If you deposit "self rolled" (these are 50 pennies rolled by hand in a wrapper) in the jug, you will receive 75 positive points (1.5 the value) for your grade.  Silver coins and paper money are negative points.  The idea is to put the positive points in your grade's jug and negative points in your competition's jug.
Let's see what we can do this year for our Lutheran School's fundraiser "Mission India"
For more information:
. . . get into the spirit of giving and support "Mission India" and your classmates and prove you have the best class on campus!

MOST PREP SAT CLASS
Faith Lutheran is proud to announce a new SAT preparation partnership with the founder and president of MostPrep, Mike Obstgarten. He will be running 6-week prep courses at 6:45 to 9:15pm in room 216 for juniors and seniors specifically for the SAT starting this summer for $600. Students interested in prepping for the ACT should still take this course as the exams are now similar enough that specific ACT courses are not necessary. This full-length course provides ample instruction and review of the concepts most frequently tested on the SAT, as well as the coaching and implementation of the test-taking techniques that have been proven to work, all while dispelling common myths and reassuring students that the task in front of them is not as daunting as it might seem. To sign up please fill out the form at this link a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the start of the class you are interested in. REGISTER The total $600 for the class will be added to your tuition bill once the class has begun. Contact Mr. Buikema at buikemad@flhsemail.org or Mike directly at mostprep@gmail.comwith questions.

DEVOTIONAL
Today’s Reading: Acts 20:28-35
And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. (Acts 20:32)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. From your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things. Not just weird or wrong, but twisted. Distorted. They started with something pure and right, then altered it. They started with God’s Word. They turned it into something else. The most dangerous false teachers quote Scripture.
Paul commends to the pastors he leaves behind more than just the Bible. He points them to God and the Word of grace. He points them to Christ and the source of grace: the Cross. Paul commends to them not just the Bible, but also the Gospel. The forgiveness of sins. Of all that the wolves would set tooth and claw to, they hate the Gospel the most. Twist it into moralism, self-improvement, and get-rich-quick schemes. Twist it into less than the whole counsel of God. Rob the Cross from those in need of it. Paul begs them through tears to give the Gospel to sinners. It builds sinners up. It changes them. It sanctifies. Makes holy. Saves. This is what the Church stands on. This is what Jesus gives through Her.
It is more blessed to give than to receive. He’s more blessed than we are. God gives and we receive. God blesses us with His mercy, His favor, His life, and His peace. He needs nothing from us. He gives His gifts to us. Care for the flock by giving them the blood that purchased them. The Church will always look pretty beat up. The wolves and false prophets speaking twisted things are still here, but we have the Gospel, the Word of grace made flesh to die and rise. We have Jesus. He conquered death and gives life to you. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
–Rev. Harrison Goodman
By grace! None dare lay claim to merit; Our works and conduct have no worth. God in His love sent our Redeemer, Christ Jesus, to this sinful earth; His death did for our sins atone, And we are saved by grace alone. (By Grace I’m Saved, LSB 566:2)
