MostPrep's Winter/Spring SAT classes Now that the PSAT is in the books for juniors, this is an excellent time to start to think about preparing for the SAT and ACT that juniors should take later this school year! FLHS is pleased to announce that MostPrep will be running SAT courses at FLHS in preparation for the two most popular SAT dates in the second semester. You can sign up for a class HERE. There is a limit of 25 students per session, so registrations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact MostPrep by e-mail (mostprep@gmail.com), phone (702-896-1307), or text (516-721-7906) if you have any questions. Here is a list of course offerings; no student may register for more than 1 course, and these courses are only open to current juniors. FLHS will bill students' accounts for these courses after they begin.
SAT Winter Course, February 3 - March 13: This 6-week course ($750) aims to fully cover the most important content for the SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Tuesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Presidents' Weekend; the course will meet on Thursday afternoon that week instead. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on February 28 and March 7, which are the final two Saturdays before the SAT is given on March 14. MostPrep recommends that students who have multiple AP classes take the March SAT so they can devote the time they need to studying for the AP tests, which they only get one chance to take!
SAT Spring Course, March 24 - May 1: This 6-week course ($750) aims to fully cover the most important content for the SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Tuesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Good Friday; the course will meet on Thursday afternoon that week instead. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on April 18 and April 25, which are the final two Saturdays before the SAT is given on May 2. (3/13) HS

We’re thrilled to announce that our High School Theatre Conservatory will be replacing the previously announced Mary Poppins production with WONDERLAND, a newly released musical by Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn! Faith Lutheran has been selected as a premiere school to debut this exciting show.
WONDERLAND is not the Alice story you know - it features an adult Alice, a disillusioned New York video game developer who crashes into a bizarre, upside-down world filled with twisted takes on familiar characters, including a power-hungry Mad Hatter, a hilarious Queen of Hearts, and a charismatic Cheshire Cat. With a contemporary score, a mysterious underground setting, and a live orchestra pit, Alice’s journey to find her lost daughter becomes a powerful story of rediscovering courage and wonder.
Get ready to go down the rabbit hole with us this spring! (12/5), HS

Notice of Credit Card Surcharge Change We want to let you know about an upcoming change to how we process credit card payments in-school. Beginning November 1, 2025, a 3.0% surcharge will be added to all transactions paid with a credit card. This change helps us offset the rising costs of credit card acceptance. The surcharge is not greater than our cost of acceptance and complies with card brand rules and applicable laws.
Please note:
No surcharge will apply to payments made with debit cards, prepaid cards, cash, or checks.
The surcharge will appear as a separate line item on your receipt.
Clear signage will be posted at our point of sale as required.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support. If you have any questions about this change or would like to discuss alternative payment methods, please reach out to us at studentbilling@flhsemail.org. (11/21), MS & HS

Items dropped off by parents will be accepted beginning at 8:30am until 1:30pm by The Shield warehouse green gate. A sign on the gate will provide instructions to obtain access to the rack for items. Parents will be able to place their student’s items on the rack that can be accessed by the student via the Student Center. We will not be responsible for monitoring or securing any item on the rack. This includes phones, computer devices, musical instruments, or homework. Thank you for understanding! MS & HS

Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV) – In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a Man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the Name that is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
If you’ve ever heard the story of St. Augustine’s conversion, you might be familiar with the fact that, as he sat outside in a garden with some books nearby, it’s said that he heard something like a child’s voice, perhaps from a nearby garden, that said, “Take and read.” Not knowing who was speaking, Augustine nevertheless picked up a book, which happened to be the Bible. And everything changed from there.
What you might not know is that prior to his conversion, later becoming Bishop of Hippo in the North of Africa, Augustine had been quite the worldly figure. He excelled at public speaking, eventually reaching the courts of nobility in Milan. He was a womanizer, and history records that he had at least one child, though he never married. His insatiable desire for worldly success and attention moved him to leave his childhood home behind, taking a boat from Carthage to leave his nagging mother. You know his mother, even if you don’t think you do. Her name was Monica, from which we get St. Monica. The city in Southern California, Santa Monica, is named after her.
She was perhaps the first so-called “helicopter parent.” In a sense, she believed her ultimate goal in life was to guide her son to become a Christian. So, a few boats later, she too left North Africa for Italy, following her son. When he finally did convert, it wasn’t long after, and she passed away, perhaps now able to rest knowing that her primary task had been fulfilled.
In brief, the story of St. Augustine’s becoming a follower of Jesus shows us that God often chooses the most unlikely figures to do incredible things, most especially, sharing the Gospel, which can change someone’s eternal destiny.
You and I are just as unlikely as St. Augustine to be chosen by God to do this. But that’s not far off from the very story that is the center of our faith. It, too, is an unlikely story, a story of God becoming flesh, taking on human form, in humility becoming a servant, and even sacrificing His own life. Who would have imagined such a thing? That God would become a human so that He could die. What’s more, this same Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, and is enthroned now at the right hand of God as Christ the King, who rules over all things.
How Christ became King is as much a surprise as the fact that He chooses people like you and me, people like St. Augustine and St. Monica. Whatever roles we have in life, we can be sure of this—God has caught us up in His grand plan of bringing the Good News of Jesus to the whole world. We might be unlikely servants who don’t think we have much to offer, but God promises to empower us.
WE PRAY that God would reach down through us to share the Good News with someone who needs it this week. God grants this to us because of Jesus. Amen.
This Daily Devotion was written by Rev. Dr. Chad Lakies.
Reflection Questions:
Do you have someone like Augustine’s mother, Monica, in your life?
Why do you think God delights in choosing unlikely people to do His work?
Who is someone you know personally that is very unlikely to come to God?
