Crusaders Avoid Scorpion Sting, Post 32-15 Win

Playing the season opener, Faith's 6th grade Boys B Team scored a 32-15 road victory vs Las Vegas Day School.
LVDS had the advantage of a game under its belt, having played on Monday, while the Crusaders were still finding their footing. As such, no surprise that Day School held a lead after the first frame, as the score was 5-4. Michael Tutino and Gavin Brown got the hoops for the Crusaders. That would be the only quarter that Faith would be outscored.

Day School led 7-6 two minutes into the second stanza before Faith took its first lead (8-7) on a driving basket by Brown, and soon afterwards, after a nice pass from Owen Larsen, Luke Walsh drained a trey to make it 11-7.  A basket from Chase Van Gronigen closed the scoring and the Crusaders led 13-7 at the break.

Defense was again the key for the Crusaders in the third quarter, as Faith scored 13 in this period, as opposed to only four by LVDS.  Tru Tyler, Jacob Hubbard and Bash Neochea each had steals or forced turnovers that directly lead to points for the Maroon and Gold, while Quintin Sallach & Ethan Grace each grabbed some key rebounds on both ends of the floor. That team effort led to some excellent scoring chance. Walsh (2), Brown (2) and Van Gronigen (6) scored, while Ollie Norris made Faith's second three pointer of the contest. It was 26-11 after 18 minutes.

Faith managed six points in the final quarter, with Van Gronigen getting another bucket to close with a team high 12 points for the contest. Tutino connected on our only made free throw of the game, and in the final stages Blake Boyer tickled the twine with a swish trey to account for the final tally.

Faith is back in action with two games next week, as they host Dawson on Tuesday at 4:30pm in the Aux Gym & travel to Adelson at 4:30 on Thursday.

Go Crusaders!
